Chickpea flour is an awesome ingredient! I love the slightly nutty taste, and also the extra protein and fiber the chickpeas bring to the equation. Something else I love: everything bagel seasoning. So, why not combine them? Which leads me to – you guessed it – Everything Bagel Chickpea Flour Muffins. With a touch of honey, these are ever so slightly sweet. But really, they are more of a savory muffin and are very satisfying on their own, served with soup, alongside breakfast, toasted and smeared with butter… you get the idea.

Chickpea Flour Muffins! Why? Because the chickpea flour helps boost protein and fiber, and it results in a delightful savory muffin when combined with everything bagel seasoning.


  • 2 eggs *see note

  • 1/2 cup (~122 g) milk of choice *see note

  • 1 cup (~120 g) chickpea flour

  • 1/2 tsp salt – but if your everything bagel seasoning is salt-heavy, you can skip the salt

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 2 Tbs everything bagel seasoning, divided – 1 Tbs in the batter, 1 Tbs for topping

  • 2 Tbs (~27 g) oil (a mild olive oil, or vegetable, canola, or other neutral-flavored oil)

  • 2 – 4 Tbs (~42 – 84 g) honey – use 3 or 4 Tbs if you prefer sweeter muffins

  • Cooking spray (optional)

  • Serving suggestions:
    – Serve alongside a breakfast of eggs and breakfast meat (or meat substitute) of choice
    – Cut in half and smear with butter
    – Enjoy with soup for lunch or dinner
    – Eat just as is! πŸ™‚


  • Preheat your oven to 375Β°F (~190Β°C). If possible, bring the eggs and milk to room temperature (or at least warmer than refrigerator temperature) to make it easier to whisk together the wet ingredients.
  • In a large bowl, combine dry ingredients: chickpea flour, salt if using, baking powder, and 1 Tbs everything bagel seasoning.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together wet ingredients: eggs, milk, oil, and honey. For a sweeter muffin, use 3 or 4 Tbs of honey instead of just 2 Tbs. If your milk and eggs are cold, it may take some whisking to incorporate the honey. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until all the chickpea flour has been moistened. Mix until the batter is smooth or very few lumps remain.
  • Spray a muffin tin or use muffin papers. Then, divide the batter evenly – this will make 8 to 9 muffins. They do rise a fair amount, so do not fill all the way to the brim but more like 2/3- to ΒΎ-full.
  • Sprinkle the muffins evenly with the remaining 1 Tbs everything bagel seasoning (about 1/3 tsp per muffin).
  • Bake for approximately 13-17 minutes, or until the muffins are just set in the middle and the edges are golden brown. Avoid overbaking, as it makes the muffins crumblier. Let them cool off for a couple minutes (so you don’t burn yourself) and then transfer to a cooling rack. Enjoy warm.


  • *Bringing your eggs and milk up to room temperature before adding the honey and mixing will make it much easier to incorporate the honey.
  • You can make your own everything bagel seasoning using flaky sea salt, poppy seeds, black and/or white sesame seeds, dehydrated onion, and dehydrated garlic.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days, and warm before serving. I will say though that one thing I have found with chickpea flour is that it does not always reheat to be quite as good as when it first finishes baking/cooking. After storing and reheating, it can sometimes be a bit dry.
